Miami-Dade’s lush landscapes and the modernized living facilities would not give you any hint about the tumultuous past of the county. Named after the famous general Francis L. Dade from the Second Seminole war who was slain in battle with native Indians, the first part of the county’s name was derived from the indigenous people of the region – ‘Mayamis’, who had been driven to the point of extinction in 17th and 18th century. The disturbing history and its memories have been overshadowed by its acclaimed modernization cradled in the arms of nature, making this breathtakingly beautiful place a hit with tourists from the world over!
