About 20 minutes away from South Beach lies a city that’s barely a few decades old. Incorporated as a city in 2003, Miami Gardens is a suburban city located in north-central Miami-Dade County. In the late 1960’s when race-based covenants fell apart, many middle and upper class African-Americans and West Indian Americans moved from other neighborhoods into what is now the Miami Gardens. The sunshine, palm trees, its proximity to the beach add on to the mix of its vibrant community, making Miami Gardens an ideal region for the working class.
